Yeppoon Garden and Pet Supplies is a small business that provides a diverse offering to its customers.
‘The Green Shed’, as it is affectionately known by residents of the Queensland small town, is a retail store that sells stock feed, garden supplies, pool supplies, chemicals and fish, and also has a nursery.
That wide range of products poses a marketing challenge, according to owner Kym Carroll.
“Our business is quite diverse and a lot of people don’t know what we sell. So getting that knowledge out to the people has been difficult,” she says.
Right now, The Green Shed doesn’t have a website; this is one marketing channel the business could use to let customers know exactly what it sells.
The Green Shed’s most successful marketing channel is Facebook, where it posts regularly and invests in ads. The business added almost 200 Facebook followers during the recent bushfires, thanks to the helpful, informative content it published.
The Green Shed also markets itself through media releases and radio ads.
Kym says the biggest marketing challenge this small business faces is being creative. But one thing The Green Shed has definitely mastered is the art of customer service.
“We are a small team who provide great customer service. We aim to please and enjoy the challenge of helping our community with their needs,” she says.
