ASIC is warning business owners to think before they click, with scammers targeting businesses with emails that are falsely claiming to be from ASIC.

Business owners have been warned to be on the lookout for scam emails that are purportedly from ASIC.

ASIC said it was aware that some business representatives have received emails containing attachments or links to fake invoices.

“Fake emails may look different to ASIC emails and generally instruct the recipient to click a link to make a payment or download an invoice,” the regulator said.

“Scammers also use viruses, spyware or malware programs to access or steal your personal information.”

Anyone who doubts the authenticity of an email can phone ASIC on 1300 300 630 on weekdays from 8.30am to 6.00pm.
